CSN: RG3 to undergo surgery for torn LCL

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will undergo surgery on a torn LCL in his right knee, and at that time, Dr. James Andrew will determine how much damage has been done to the ACL, according to ESPN?s Adam Schefter.

It?s believed that Griffin tweaked the knee in the first quarter of Sunday?s 24-14 playoff loss to the Seahawks and appeared to play through the pain. The rookie left the game for good in the fourth quarter after crumpling to the field in agony, moments after his leg twisted awkwardly as he reached for a low snap.

In the 48 hours since the injury, the Redskins have been second-guessed for the decision to leave the face of the franchise in the game despite the injury. Tuesday?s news will do nothing to quell that criticism.

Griffin originally hurt the knee on Dec. 9 against the Ravens when a hard hit resulted in a Grade 1 sprain of his LCL. He missed the following week?s game but returned to the lineup in Philadelphia, sporting a heavy duty brace. Griffin was still wearing the brace against Seattle.
